BBC News Online takes a look at the key moments that led to Manchester United's thrilling 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the European Cup final.

Five minutes: Ronny Johnsen collides with Carsten Jancker on the left edge of the United box to concede a free-kick in a dangerous position.

Six mins: From the free-kick Mario Basler curls the ball round the base of the wall and into the bottom far corner to shatter United and give the German side the best possible start.

15 mins: A scramble in the Bayern box following Gary Neville's long throw and Andy Cole stabs the ball just wide of the left post from six yards.

29 mins: Just as things were looking more encouraging for United, Bayern remind them of the danger as Zickler flashes in a low drive from 20 yards which skids past Schmeichel's right post.

41 mins: United threaten when they win a free-kick 30 yards out. Beckham steps up but drives the ball wide of Kahn's right post.

46 mins: A fine saving tackle from Johnsen forces Jancker wide and enables Schmeichel to save as Bayern start the second half brightly.

56 mins: So near, yet so far for United. As they step up the tempo Giggs curls in a cross from the right and Jesper Blomqvist hurls himself at the ball but scoops it over the bar from five yards.

64 mins: Move over David Beckham. Basler spots Schmeichel off his line and tries a cheeky shot from halfway which has the United keeper scrambling back to see it fly over the bar.

67 mins: Enter the FA Cup Final hero Teddy Sheringham - as a substitute for Blomqvist.

73 mins: A crucial close-range save from Schmeichel, tipping the ball over the bar to deny Effenberg.

79 mins: Bayern sub Mehmet Scholl hits the post to United's relief.

81 mins: Ole Solskjaer comes on for Cole and immediately powers in a header from Gary Neville's cross which forces a good save.

82 mins: Schmeichel denies Scholl at the other end with a good save.

84 mins: United are hanging on as Jancker crashes the ball against the bar.

90 mins: Sheringham slides the ball in from United's last hope - a corner which had even Schmeichel in the box.

92 mins: Deep into injury time another corner from Beckham is flicked on by Sheringham and volleyed home superbly by Solskjaer to send the United players wild with delight.

93 mins: The final whistle signals a historic treble for United - the Champions of Europe.
